  • Post category:Education

In the dynamic landscape of education, where socio-political forces intersect with pedagogical theories and practices, the importance of thoughtful discourse and analysis cannot be overstated. It is with great enthusiasm that we introduce the educational column for BAKBY, a platform dedicated to delving into current education topics both domestically and globally, while weaving them into the fabric of Torah teachings. This column aims to foster a deep understanding of the evolving educational landscape, grounded in the values and wisdom of Torah.

Guiding our exploration is the distinguished Dr. Syene Cooper, a luminary in the realm of education. With an extensive and diverse portfolio, Dr. Cooper brings over two decades of experience to this endeavor. Currently serving as an adjunct graduate professor and clinical field supervisor at Touro College’s School of Education and Special Education, Dr. Cooper’s expertise spans a range of grade levels and educational contexts, from birth to 12th grade. His commitment to nurturing transformative change in education has garnered recognition, including a feature on the cover of Touro’s Alumni magazine.

Dr. Cooper’s journey has seen him in pivotal roles, shaping educational experiences at various levels. As a former house principal of Albany High School in New York’s capital region, he orchestrated the educational journey of 600 students and led a team of dedicated staff members. His roles extended to early childhood education, as he assumed the mantle of Assistant Executive Director for Hamilton-Madison House Early Childhood Education Division in New York City. Overseeing programs for preschool children and family child care providers, Dr. Cooper exhibited his commitment to quality education and holistic child development.

Furthermore, Dr. Cooper’s leadership extended to the realm of specialized education, having served as the Assistant Principal and Interim-Acting Principal of Lighthouse International, The Samuel and Ethel J. LeFrak School/Child Development Center. In this capacity, he championed an inclusive educational environment for children with visual impairments, implementing strategies rooted in the principles of Developmentally Appropriate Practice and Common Core standards.

Drawing from his extensive academic background, which includes a Ph.D. in Education, an M.S. in Education Supervision and Administration, an M.A. in Industrial Organizational Psychology, and a B.S. in Psychology/Education, Dr. Cooper is uniquely positioned to navigate the complex intersection of educational theories, practices, and Torah teachings.

Through this educational column, Dr. Cooper will dissect pressing educational topics, shedding light on their implications for both educators and learners. By examining the socio-political climate and unpacking mainstream issues, he will bridge the gap between contemporary education and the timeless wisdom of Torah. The goal is to facilitate meaningful conversations, inspire critical thinking, and empower educators, parents, and students to navigate the educational landscape with a profound sense of purpose and enlightenment.

In the ever-evolving field of education, where challenges and opportunities intertwine, the wisdom of Torah provides a steadfast compass. We invite you to join us on this intellectual journey as Dr. Syene Cooper guides us through a multidimensional exploration of education in its diverse forms and manifestations. Through his insightful analysis, we endeavor to uncover the profound connections between educational experiences and the teachings of Torah, fostering a deeper understanding of both realms.
